Acquired 1993An unusual cabinet from 1720 appears to be a scaled down adults bureau, and was presumably made for a child. It is believed that the piece was commissioned by Sir William Morgan for his son.
William Owen's Portrait of Sir Charles Morgan shows the Lieutenant-Colonel seated in an armchair. Morgan built on the financial success of his father by setting up a company to develop the docks in Newport. He was MP for Brecon and Monmouth, and President of the Equitable Life Assurance Society.
The Tredegar Salt is one of the oldest original objects from the house dated from 1598.
