This exhibition has now closed, find out what else is going on at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery

Baselitz's work has never been seen in Leicester before.

One of the Neo-Expressionist German artists, Baselitz's paintings are characterised by deformation and vibrant colours - as demonstrated in his famous upside-down images. Baselitz has been heralded as one of the most revolutionary painters of the 20th century, and he spent many years working outside the mainstream of contemporary art. Rebelling against the dominance of abstract painting, his work is instead rich with symbolism.

The gallery's German Expressionist collection has been redisplayed and reopens to coincide with this exhibition.
