Waplington’s photographs capture the creative journey behind McQueen’s final Autumn/Winter collection.
'That was the kind of show that puts your faith back in fashion,' said Vogue fashion editor Miranda Almond after watching McQueen's Horn of Plenty at the Palais Omnisport in 2009. Featuring geisha-faced, glossy lips models with upturned baskets, lampshades and umbrellas on their heads, McQueen created the retrospective show to celebrate his personal career highlights. The designs reused silhouettes and fabrics from previous collections, while the set – which was centred around an old rubbish tip – featured discarded elements from his other catwalks.
Waplington captured McQueen’s creative process in the run up to the show. Candids of the designer at work are shown alongside photographs of recycling plants and landfills – themes that inspired the Horn of Plenty collection.
