Through the work of more than 40 leading artists, designers and musicians, this Somerset House exhibition celebrates the mushroom and all inspiration derived from it.

Mushrooms: the art, design and future of fungi looks at the cultural legacy of fungi, which have evoked all kinds of responses from artists through time. Some highlights include watercolours by Beatrix Potter, John Cage’s limited-edition Book of recipes, observations and illustrations (1972), and remarkable collages by American artist Cy Twombly.

The exhibition also explores innovative experiments in design, textiles and architecture that use mushrooms in groundbreaking new ways, from sustainable clothing made with fibers extracted from fungi to upcycled agro-waste.

You can see inside the original show through a hypnotic video which perfectly conveys the show’s psychedelic essence. The video allows you to get a closer look at works by remarkable artists including Takashi Murakami, Haroon Mirza, Hannah Collins and Adham Faramawy.
