This exhibition has now closed, find out what else is going on at Kettle's Yard

In the first major solo show of conceptual artist Sutapa Biswas in over a decade, the rich diversity of her multimedia career is on display, featuring well-known paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography and film.

Born in 1962, Sutapa Biswas made vital contributions to modern art in post-war Britain. Here some of her most seminal works will be on display, including Housewives with Steak Knives (1985), a powerful work using collage and colour to explore the suppression of women artists throughout art history. Other highlights in the exhibition include the video Kali (1984), depicting an early performance work by the artist while still studying at university.

The exhibition will also feature a new film Lumen (2020-21) which was supported by Art Fund. Lumen explores the poignant issues of migration, bringing together fictional and factual narratives.
