Take a fresh look at the life and literature of the Victorian novelist and poet, Thomas Hardy, in the stunning Wessex landscapes that shaped his view of the world. His story will be retold in exciting new ways by our museum collections, from period costumes to personal letters, art to archaeology.
Hardy was a man torn between two worlds – the ancient past and his life in a time of rapid scientific advances - and he wove the old ways of life into his plots, and also campaigned to maintain our ancient landscapes.
Through personal items the exhibition - being held concurrently at Wiltshire Museum, Dorset Museum, Poole Musem and The Salisbury Museum - will explore the life and times of Hardy, through his books and beliefs.
