Looking Back: Georgia O'Keeffe at Tate Modern

Published 8 March 2021

Jackie Klein explores the mesmerising and powerful work of Georgia O'Keeffe, an artist renowned for her major contribution to the history of modern art.

Georgia O'Keeffe is widely credited as the 'mother of modernism' and her esteemed Jimson Weed, White Flower holds the record for being the most expensive painting by a female artist ever to be sold at auction. And yet there are no works by O'Keeffe in a UK public collection.

Tate Modern’s 2016 retrospective offered a rare opportunity to see Georgia O’Keeffe’s innovative works in the UK and dispelled the myth that the artist is a 'painter of flowers'. From early photographs and watercolours to paintings of clouds and skulls, this hugely successful exhibition told the complete story of O'Keeffe's incredible output.

Broadcaster Jackie Klein explores her mesmerising work at the major 2016 exhibition of her career at Tate Modern.
