The Dorman began life as a natural history museum, but its collections have expanded and diversified over the years to include pottery, archaeology, geology, and objects with local and cultural significance.
There are eight themed display galleries: 20th-Century Woman, Earth in Space, Four Corners, H20, Linthorpe Art Pottery (including examples of work by Christopher Dresser), The Nelson Room, Town in Time and Lordship of Acklam Plan.
On site there is full disabled access throughout and additional facilities such as a café, on-site collection stores, a resources room and an education suite.
