Home of the writer Laurence Sterne in the 1760s, the house was christened Shandy Hall by his friends to celebrate the success of The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman.

The house has an outstanding collection of the author's works, from first editions to the present day. Other materials include paintings and prints illustrating scenes from Sterne's novels. Contemporary exhibitions are held regularly. Two acres of beautiful gardens surround the building and are open to the public.
